I was born and raised in New Zealand, and have German, Danish and English relatives who have always ensured that my family and I feel strongly connected to Europe’s cultural heritage.
My love of languages started in my childhood with Latin, and grew during my university years as I paired my degree in performance piano with papers in German. When an accident prevented me from pursuing a career in music, I turned for solace to my other love, German.
My subsequent studies in German were rewarded with numerous prizes, including a DAAD Semester Scholarship to Karl-Eberhard Universität, Germany. This last experience sparked an obsession with the ability of languages to bridge cultures, and led indirectly to my moving to Germany for five years.
My greatest achievement to date? Certainly the PhD in German literature and philosophy that I began while living in Germany and completed in New Zealand in 2015.
Let my drive to excellence benefit you — I believe that the exacting standards behind my academic achievements have proven themselves hugely beneficial to my translation and writing career, and I look forward to meeting and even exceeding your own high expectations.
